///From the author:this project has two aims - one, to provide details about one of the main locations in Spacers: The Erebus Effect, due to be released next January; and two, to provide further background on the United Nations of Mars. The Argyre Republic is named for the Argyre Planitia, which is a sea as of the mid-24th century, and is home to about 20 percent of the population of Mars. Making the map and writing out the associated lore has been a great exercise, and I'm excited to see what people think of this as we move toward the release of Erebus
Map of the Argyre Republic in 2354
(Note: map shows the 27 cities in the Republic with populations greater than 100 thousand)
When Janet Harkov took the case to track down a rogue zharan on her home turf of New Galle, the Titan War veteran and seasoned Artificial Lifeform Control Agency operative never expected that it would kick off a chase all around the bounds of the Argyre Republic. But when the trail her latest artificial target left in its wake leads to the seedy Edge District in the bustling regional capital Nereidum, she is dragged off on a steadily accelerating and increasingly dangerous fiasco as the conspiracy surrounding its origins unravels
By the time she winds up on the other side of the Argyre Sea, she is up to her neck in trouble, with a possibly compromised ALCA office in the sleepy industrial town of Juliet City only the tip of the iceberg. Janet’s old partner Alyssa Yukawa will play the second gun in her hunt for answers, all while a dangerous enemy agent tries to hunt them down first. All this and more in the upcoming SPACERS: THE EREBUS EFFECT

The Argyre Republic was founded by a trio of former SADI corps astronauts turned Martian industrial magnates, with the aim of establishing a safeguard for the many new colonists moving to the region during the early 22nd century space industry boom.
Although it was the first Martian republic, Argyre was far from the last. By 2169, Martian settlers had set up nine other regional republics, key among them the Republic of Marineris and the Hellas People’s Republic. On the bicentennial of the famous Apollo 11 landings, these ten republics signed the Galle City Accords and formed the new United Nations of Mars.
Over the next century, the UNOM flourished as a rising industrial power, leading to tensions with the warlords of Titan over control of outer system resources. This eventually sparked the Solar Civil War (2292-2297), which rewrote the status quo for Solar Space.
In November of 2354, as the Argyre Republic prepared to celebrate its 217th birthday, UNOM enjoyed a continued streak of economic prosperity, tempered only by the ongoing violence of the Draconist Crisis. As many speculate on how the Crisis will end, a smaller crisis is developing in the Eastern District capital of New Galle. As ALCA agent Janet Harkov picks up leads on a new case, she does not realize that all of human society may be at stake.
