As soon as she climbed back into the agency car, Janet placed a call to HQ in downtown Galle. The connection buzzed on, and a familiar man appeared on the screen built into the dashboard. His face was dark, dusted with graying stubble and a gruff exterior that suffered no fools. It was Senior Agent Tarun Djembe, the head of Janet’s division of the local office. His voice was a gravelly mixture of irritation and impatience. “You said you’d have progress on that dead zharan. Any leads thus far?”
